Dibekacin sulfate
Indications/Uses
Septicaemia, abscess, furuncle, furunculosis, phlegmon, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, peritonitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, otitis media & post-op infections due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa & Proteus sp, or dibekacin-sensitive strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, E. coli & Staph aureus that have acquired resistance to many drugs.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Adult 100 mg daily. Childn 1-2 mg/kg. To be administered in 1 or 2 divided doses. IV drip infusion Adult 100 mg daily in 2 divided doses to be infused over a period of 30 min-1 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other aminoglycosides.
Special Precautions
Poor oral & parenteral nutrition. Renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Shock, ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity. Rarely, liver damage, deficiency of vit K & vit B; infrequent, GI upsets, anorexia.
Drug Interactions
Use w/ blood substitutes & diuretics intensify nephrotoxicity & ototoxicity. Possible inhibition of respiration w/ anaesth or muscle relaxant.
